Security Fencing Installation in Derby
Security fencing serves a clear, measurable purpose: to deter, delay, and detect unauthorised access to your property. Whether you're protecting a family home, a business premises, an industrial compound, or a public facility, the right security fence significantly reduces vulnerability and gives you genuine peace of mind.
At Fencing Company Derby, we assess your specific security requirements and recommend the most effective fencing solution for your site, budget, and aesthetic preferences. We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach — the right security fence for a school perimeter is very different from what's needed for an industrial storage compound.
Choosing the Right Security Level
Security fencing isn't a single product — it's a spectrum. We help you match your fencing to the actual threat level and legal requirements for your site:
Domestic Security Fencing
Close board with close-boarded gates, tall wooden fencing with trellis toppers, or featheredge with gravel board. Suitable for residential properties wanting improved privacy and deterrence without an industrial appearance.
Commercial Perimeter Fencing
Bow top railings, chain link with barbed wire, or welded mesh panels. Suitable for car parks, retail sites, sports facilities and low-to-medium risk commercial premises where a visible deterrent is needed.
High-Security Commercial & Industrial
Palisade fencing, 358 anti-climb welded mesh, or steel palisade with razor wire topping. Suitable for industrial units, warehouses, compounds, and high-value storage facilities across Derby.
Maximum Security Perimeters
LPS 1175 rated fencing systems, anti-vehicle barriers, combined with CCTV-ready posts and integrated access control. For critical infrastructure, data centres, and the highest risk commercial sites.

Security Fencing Products We Install
Palisade Fencing
The UK's most widely used high-security fence. Hot-dip galvanised steel pales with pointed or cranked tops mounted on horizontal rails and robust posts. An immediate visual and physical deterrent.
358 Anti-Climb Mesh
Known as "prison mesh" — 76.2mm × 12.5mm apertures that are too small to get fingers into and too rigid to cut easily. The highest performing welded mesh system for sites requiring maximum deterrence.
Steel Bow Top Railings
Child-safe, attractive security fencing for schools, parks, public spaces and residential areas. Bow-topped vertical rails eliminate climbing footholds while maintaining an open, welcoming appearance.
Welded Mesh Panels (V-Mesh)
Rigid V-fold welded mesh panels in a steel frame — strong, low-maintenance, and highly resistant to climbing and cutting. Available in a range of heights and wire gauges to suit the security specification.
Security Fencing Add-Ons & Enhancements
The fence itself is the foundation — these additions can significantly enhance its effectiveness:
- Razor wire and barbed wire topping — installed to the top of palisade and chain link fencing to prevent climbing over
- Anti-climb spikes — a less aggressive alternative to razor wire, suitable for properties where aesthetics matter
- Rotating toppings — spinning discs that make the top of a fence impossible to grip
- Security gates — manually operated or automated gates integrated with your fencing perimeter, including pedestrian and vehicle access gates
- CCTV-ready posts — posts installed with provisions for CCTV camera mounting brackets
- Defensive planting zones — we can advise on fence placement to complement thorny hedge planting as a natural additional layer
Planning Permission for Security Fencing
Security fencing height and placement can be subject to planning restrictions depending on your location. As a general guide for Derby:
- Fences up to 2 metres in height at the rear of a property generally do not require planning permission
- Fences at the front of a property, or adjacent to a highway, are generally limited to 1 metre without permission
- Commercial sites, listed buildings, and conservation areas may have additional restrictions
- Razor wire and barbed wire topping can attract specific planning conditions or neighbour objections and should be considered carefully
We'll advise you on likely planning requirements during your free site visit and can flag anything that may require formal consent.
